Sex and power (“House of Cards”)

I’ve been on a bit of a “House of Cards” jag.

In the episode I just watched, Kevin Spacey, playing Frank Underwood, the venal southern Democrat at the center of the show, says, “”A great man once said, everything is about sex. Except sex. Sex is about power.”

Google, by way of GoodReads, would have me believe that Oscar Wilde said this, and he may have (I can’t find where he wrote it).

But whoever it was – damn. That’s some powerful shit there.

  1. I also do not know who said it, but it was *not* Oscar Wilde. GoodReads has loads of fake Wilde quotes. Apart from the fact that the quote doesn’t appear in any of his works or letters or in the memoirs of his friends, I believe the word ‘sex’ was not used in that sense during his lifetime.
