A dictatorship of real time

I suffer from competing impulses when it comes to time. On the one hand, like many people, I experience time as in some way a foe, something to be battled, killed, even (as the saying goes). I’ve played more than my share of Tetris (back in the day) and 2048 (more recently) and the like. I spent years acting out sexually in a desperate attempt to escape whatever it was I was feeling in the (then-)present moment.

On the other hand, in more recent, happier, fulfilling, times, I’ve found time to be my friend. For the most part, I like the present moment. I don’t seek so much to escape it as to experience it, fully.

Being present isn’t always appealing to everyone….
